Abstract
Textile printing is that branch of the creative arts which embraces any method of applying color or design to a woven fabric. Since the earliest periods in the development of man’s craftsmanship, samples have been produced which indicate that man has woven designs and motifs into his fabric.Screen printing is a method which does not require a large initial outlay for each pattern. It is development of stencil printing, it is somewhat crude method but it is possible to produce some quite attractive colored patterns on fabric. Screen printing is still done by hand for many fabric applications. The present study was conducted to know the preferences for the effect of different binders on different fabrics using one selected motif. Fifty respondents were selected for the selection of their preference for the type of motif to be used for screen printing of dining sheets. Colors and color schemes were being selected by the respondents. Twenty four samples were prepared using six different binders on four fabrics to show their different effects to the respondents for the selection of fabric to be used for printing of dinning sheets. Thirty placements were drawn and out of these ten placements which got the highest score were further used for printing of dining sheets. The study was carried out with the help of survey and experimental methods. The sample size consisted of two groups of respondents. First group comprised of fifty home science students of Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamuna Nagar and second group was of lecturers from Clothing and Textiles Department of the same college. Interview schedule was prepared to collect the data regarding screen printing of dining sheets. Data were subjected to coding, tabulation and statistical analysis. This study concluded that the particular type of binder worked best on particular kind of base fabric and this was made possible only by applying different binders on different fabrics
